The channel

Imperial is a finance and markets YouTube channel with a dark, high-stakes brand tone. When we started working together, the channel had 200K subscribers.

The problem

The retention curves told a clear story. Viewers were leaving during slow market-recap intros, before the video got to the part they'd clicked for. That early drop was limiting how widely YouTube recommended each upload, which capped the channel's growth no matter how strong the ideas were.

What we changed

We applied our four-stage system.

  1. Diagnosed the drop-off. Our retention diagnostic pinpointed the slow market-recap intros as the main point where viewers exited.
  2. Rebuilt the cut. We moved the channel to tighter, cinematic pacing matched to Imperial's dark, high-stakes brand, so the edit reinforced the tone instead of fighting it.
  3. Re-cut the hook. Instead of opening with a greeting, every video now opens cold on the stakes or thesis within the first 10 seconds.
  4. Locked the cadence. A consistent upload schedule, combined with thumbnail A/B testing, let the improvements compound from video to video.

The result

Over 8 months, Imperial grew from 200K to 500K subscribers, a 2.5x increase.

What other finance channels can learn

The biggest lever wasn't a new format or bigger production budget. It was respecting the viewer's time in the opening seconds and making the edit match the brand. If your finance videos open with a recap or background, that's the first thing to test. Our guides on hooks for the first 30 seconds and editing finance YouTube videos go deeper.
